Senior Session Check List!!
WOO HOO Your senior shoot is coming up and I am SO excited!! Here is a little check list to go through to make sure you aren’t forgetting anything! :)
Try on all of your outfits before hand to make sure everything fits correctly.
Make sure you have a strapless bra if needed!!
Nails are either freshly done or bare.
Don’t forget socks, belts, jewelry- little things like that! Try to untangle necklaces before our shoot :)
Check your GPS before hand to you’ll know how much time it takes to drive to our location if you’ve never been there before- don’t forget about traffic!
If we are shooting at the beach, you will probably get a little bit wet- make sure you bring a towel with you to dry off.
Bring a cold water bottle with you to help keep your smile from feeling dry!
Sometimes our locations involve a little bit of walking, so make sure you bring a pair of shoes that you can walk in! We can switch shoes when we get to our exact shooting spot if we need too :) This goes for anyone coming with you to our shoot too if they’ll be walking around with us!
Tips for What to Wear -
The most important aspect above all else when deciding what to wear is that you choose outfits that make you feel awesome and comfortable!! Here are some other tips for putting outfits together:
If you like dresses, choosing ones that have movement to them can create really great photos! We will probably have you do some spins to get the fabric moving, and those shots tend to be some of my favorites :) Feel free to wear spandex underneath if it makes you feel more comfortable!
You might have heard that patterns and stripes don’t photograph well- NOT TRUE! If you have a favorite outfit that has stripes or patterns on it, I’ll make sure to shoot in a setting that makes it look great and not too busy.
Outfits that have a more formal feel (like something you would wear heels with) tend to photograph best in an urban setting, so if that’s not the setting we are going for with your shoot, I would consider eliminating that look!
Going for variety in your outfits gives you the most variety with your photos! So for example, for a 3 outfit shoot, I would do one look with jeans, one look with a dress, and then maybe a skirt or different style top/jeans for the third one.
Tips for Hair and Makeup
Sometimes my seniors with get hair and makeup professionally done, and sometimes they do it themselves- it really is about whatever will make you feel your best! If you are doing your hair and makeup yourself, here are some tips:
Make sure you wash your hair the day of your shoot! Greasy hair definitely shows in photos and it’s not something I can edit out unfortunately.
When it comes to makeup, even if you are someone who doesn’t wear makeup often, making sure you at least have mascara on and some color on your cheeks will help bring your eyes and skin tone to life on camera!
I will 100% make sure to edit any blemishes or anything else on your skin that you don’t want in your photos, so if you wake up with a zit- don’t stress!! We have photoshop magic on our side :)
Start applying chapstick a couple days before our shoot to make sure your lips aren’t chapped!
Feel free to bring powder, lip gloss, and a hair brush with you to do touchups in between outfits.
If you are getting your hair and makeup professionally done, make sure you tell them if you want something changed after they are finished!! I know it can feel awkward, but these photos will last you a lifetime, so your hair and makeup should be exactly how you want it. An example of how to ask for a change is “ I love how the color you used for my blush and eyeshadow, but would it be possible to tone down my eyeliner so it feels a little more me?” Your makeup artist wants you to feel awesome too, I promise! :)
